Shipping, West Coast USA, Transparent Inlay, Feedback, Software update, Scheduled Forum downtime
Whoops, we made a mistake. You see the thing is, we can either be stubborn and put our head in the sand and say “We aren’t doing an update because we’re busy doing shipping” or we can listen to our backers, apologize and say “you are right, we should have done a text update”. This whole project is about a community, we listen to you guys, and your overwhelming voice right now wants a shipping update in the form of a blog post / kickstarter update as well as a Youtube Video. You are right, we should have done a text update. Our “excuse” is that we have been busy packing/posting your rings to you, the video was an easy one to just wing and throw out there for you guys. We’re sorry we didn’t get this text update out earlier but hopefully our reasoning is just.
So here it is… With a few days extra progress to include..
Lots of rings landing
As rings are landing we’re packing and fulfilling right away. We fulfilled a lot of US rings from the UK as a delivery didn’t get to the US from China. We did about 1500 rings this week and we’re due to do another 500 or so in the US tomorrow(New info). We’re still waiting on large delivery of the transparent rings, as of today we don’t have a shipping number yet, hopefully we will get one tomorrow. We’re going to start on the collections soon, we have a system in place now.
West Coast USA Tour and Gadget show
Sadly we don’t have the resources to attend at the Gadget show, we were invited and gifted a stand but we’re focusing on shipping instead of exposure right now. Next month things will be different!
We will travelling from LA up to SF mid to late April so if you wanna meet up please contact us.
Transparent inlay negative to positive
The transparent inlay issue where the company put their logo on the ring was a real pain, it put us back a few weeks but it did tell us we could put our own artwork on the inlay and so we did that and they look AWESOME! Pic below..
Whoa this ring is awesome
Yea we’re really proud of what we all achieved together, the switch to titanium and the improvements to the antenna and the apps have really pushed this way beyond our initial goal. Sadly the cost is the delays we have experienced, ultimately we feel it’s worth it though and the feedback we’re getting seems to agree!
I’m still waiting on the ring
As rings arrive we pack them right away and get them out, we’re literally going as fast as we can, we’re due a 3 or 4 day delay as our factory is taking a break for holidays this weekend but other than that we’re getting 500 or so rings per day from them. This is way short of our 1000 per day target but we’re finding the QA fail rates are dropping so it’s worth the wait. Once your ring arrives in stock and it’s packed up we will email you to say it’s on route then ship it the same/next day. We don’t have the man hours to provide tracking numbers right now but we will hopefully be able to in the future.
Big software update and forum move.
Those of you following the open source NFC Ring Control repo will have seen me do lots of commits over the past month. The new functionality is just going through final polishing this week (mostly CSS stuff) and should hopefully be out to beta testers by the end of the week and into production within a week from that. The major new functionality is being able to get your NFC Ring Unlock user/pass registered through the app.
NFC Ring Oauth2 identity provider
As part of our forum move we’re moving all of our authentication and sign on over to Oauth2, this will allow you to use a single identity/account across all of our online sites (forum/blog/app) etc.
Engage batman
The best place to engage with the NFC Ring is through the forum initially then if you can’t the resolution you need hit us up through support.
We have scheduled downtime on Thursday for the Forum as we begin our migration over to NodeBB.
Thanks all and again apologies it took so long to get this out! Thanks for being patient.
